Kate Coughlin joined the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University as the Director of the Center for Family Enterprises in November, 2017. In this role, Kate is responsible for the academic and engagement activities of the Center, as well as developing, directing and executing its strategy. As a trusted advisor to board members in Fortune 100, family philanthropy and nonprofit organizations, Kate is a senior executive with extensive financial and operational expertise. An alumna of Kellogg, Kate earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Cum Laude) from the University of Notre Dame.

Without strong governance, intrafamily disputes and philosophical differences among the extended family can undermine even the best-intentioned philanthropic program.
